Youth visions and solutions

Our City 2030 is part of WWF’s efforts to endorse sustainable cities, support learning and participation and reduce the Ecological footprint on our planet. The project focuses on strengthening youth capacity to engage on issues of climate change, education for sustainable development and disaster risk management. The project has been implemented in collaboration with PLAN International in Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia and the Philippines.

Our City 2030 guides students and local stake holders towards a deeper understanding of future challenges and the role of cities, and strengthens preparedness at the local level. In includes capacity building, engagement of youth and commitment of city authorities towards developing 1.5°C trajectories.

Our City 2030

A climate safe future

Our goal is that by 2030, an equitable and just transition is underway that limits warming to 1.5°C and protects people and nature and builds a climate resilient future.

Urbanization a global megatrend

Up to 70% of global population is projected to be living in cities by 2050, hence increased need for sustainable transport infrastructure, safe access to energy, food, water and waste management. Already now, urban residents account for 70% of global carbon emissions.

One Planet City Challenge

The Our City 2030 project has been implemented in collaboration between WWF and PLAN International. It is part of WWFs global program for sustainable urban development. Cities involved in the project were invited to WWFs One Planet City Challenge which offers them assessment of their climate actions plans.

Youth engagement

The three year project has been supported by the Swedish Postcode Lottery. It has been engaging and inspiring young people to contribute to building climate smart, resilient and sustainable cities.The project was implemented in in Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia and Philippines in four pilot cities: Kampala, Nyamata, Lusaka and Quezon.
