We Love Cities
Raising citizens’ voices

WWF’s We Love Cities campaign is designed to encourage communication and collaboration between local governments and the citizens they represent, especially around climate change and sustainability.

Through this platform WWF gives voice to millions of people who love their cities and are eager to see them become sustainability leaders.

When cities join the One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) they get support with reporting climate commitments and proposed actions. They are then evaluated by WWF and its partners, and a group of finalists is chosen. These finalists are invited to participate in We Love Cities.

WWF works to raise awareness of finalist cities and to inspire people to participate in We Love Cities. Citizens are encouraged to vote for their favorite cities and to submit suggestions for further improvement. All these help strengthen cities’ motivation for continuous improvement.

We love to engage citizens

Change starts locally as individuals are inspired to act. We Love Cities gives a boost to OPCC cities as they seed both individual efforts and collaboration between local governments and their citizens, in order to multiply the positive effects. From local to global the goal is a growing network of changemakers!

In 2020 We Love Cities saw participation from 54 finalists on 6 continents – representing over 112 million citizens, 1.2 million votes, and 79,000 improvement suggestions!
