On December 29, 2020, Argentina submitted its updated NDC to the UNFCCC.

Argentina has enhanced its ambition, as the new target represents an emissions reduction of 25.7% compared to its previous NDC. The country has also moved from having conditional targets to an unconditional target, although international support would be welcome. However, the NDC is still not aligned to 1.5˚C. Progress can be noted in the adaptation component and on the inclusion of social aspects with a focus on a just transition. A participatory process is another highlight. Aspects such as finance and sectoral targets need further development, that the Government has informed should happen in 2021.
