Environmental own goals: Toxics and pollution

Exposure to toxic chemicals is putting you and wildlife at risk
Global production of man-made chemicals

There is no doubt that 21st century society depends on man-made chemicals and there is no doubt that many bring significant benefits. However, many many chemicals (more than you'd believe) are damaging not just wildlife but our very selves and our children – we have very little knowledge of their long term effects because we're not strict enough in testing just how dangerous they are.

Take a look at these facts: between 1930 and 2000 global production of man-made chemicals increased from 1 million to 400 million tonnes each year. The amount of pesticide sprayed on crops has increased 26 times in the last 50 years.

The impacts are enormous and widespread (and this is an understatement).
